Vital signs are the measurements of our body’s most basic functions. They are helpful in detecting and/or monitoring medical problems. Vital signs monitoring is an integral part of the services offered daily in a nursing home in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania.
Along with personal care in Pennsylvania, our care professionals check our clients:
- Body Temperature
This can be taken axillary, by ear, by skin, orally, or rectally with the help of our Live-in Caregiver. The normal body temperature of a healthy adult can range from 97.8o F (36.5o C) to 99o Fahrenheit (37.2o C). A person’s normal body temperature varies depending on his/her food and fluid consumption, gender, recent activity, time of the day, and, in women, the stage of their menstrual cycle.
- Pulse Rate
It is the number of times the heart beats per minute. Taking the pulse rate also denotes the heart rhythm and the strength of the pulse. The normal pulse for healthy adults ranges from 60 to 100 beats per minute. Pulse rates may increase and fluctuate with emotions, exercise, illness, and injury.
- Respiration Rate
It is the number of breaths a person takes per minute. Respiration rate is usually measured when a person is at rest and counted by how many times a person’s chest rises in one minute. Normal respiration rates for adults at rest range from 12 to 16 breaths per minute. Respiration rates may increase with medical conditions. When checking the respiration rate, it’s important to also note whether a person has any breathing difficulty.
